Stuffed Grape Leaves

The Joy of Sharing

Join us as we kick off our In the Kitchen With.... series. We had the pleasure of spending an afternoon with  Samantha Ferraro, the creator of Little Ferraro Kitchen, World Food Made Easy and the author of the Weeknight Mediterranean Kitchen. She shares how she came to embrace her diverse heritage through food and cooking.

Food and Culture

In this installment of In The Kitchen With…we were invited into the kitchen of Samantha Ferraro to discuss how food defines culture and community. During our visit, Samantha teaches us how to make Dolma or stuffed grape leaves while discussing her culture and childhood memories in the kitchen.

As we roll the filling into the grape leaves - which we discover is a way to express your individuality - Sam shares stories of the food that she grew up with and how her Jewish culture influenced those foods. Making stuffed grape leaves represents community and in a way demonstrates being part of the greater whole. And as Sam explains, cooking together provides the opportunity to absorb different cooking techniques and be introduced to other cultures.

We reminisce memories in the kitchen but this experience itself will be an irreplaceable memory that we’ll remember every time we eat stuffed grape leaves!

Isn't it beautiful how food offers a strong sense of identity and belonging? I bet we all can relate to Samantha's feelings. What are some cultural foods which hold such value for you? Let us know.
