How marvelous! I spent some time in the East New York section of Brooklyn, a neighborhood that is now considered dangerous and poverty ridden. The residents I spent time with, though, remembered when the area was a multi-ethnic and thriving community with a beloved market area where farmers from New Jersey and Long Island came each day. Among the most fondly remembered were the dairy farmers. A direct quote from one of my favorite people: "OHHHHHHH, my lord! My mother used to send me out each day for two bottles--two nickles--and they never made it home with tops on because we used to sit on the curb and scoop out the cream. That and a bagel HEAVEN!"
