I love this piece about the ritual of coffee making. It makes me want to reexamine my own method, a pour-over Hario drip, though it does deliver a pretty fine cup of joe. Food in art makes perfect sense. Both are sensual pleasure producers. Please keep going.
Thank you Ruth! I would love to hear what you discover when you reexamine your coffee ritural. And thank you for your feedback. I think that Art In Food may find a place among the other columns in the As We Eat Journal. ~ Leigh
I love the ritual of making coffee and the individuality of the ritual. My method for making my daily cup differs greatly from my daughter and also from my husband; we use 3 different coffee making methods to achieve exactly how each of us prefers our cup. To think about it in terms of cooking, I would not advocate for cooking the same recipe 3 different ways, yet for brewing coffee it makes sense!
It's interesting how we view our individual beverage tastes differently from our meal tastes. I hand't thought of that until you mentioned it. Yes, I wouldn't cook different meals for my family - though I do take their preferences into account - but I'm happy to create a drink that is uniquely theirs. ~ Leigh
I should say that we each make our own cup of coffee - 3 different methods, often simultaneously. And when my husband & I can’t decide on a bottle of wine, we choose our own and open 2. Why not!?!?
Happy New Year! Love this piece and such a great way to begin the year. Even though I no longer drink coffee, I love the ritual and making it for others. As you say so perfectly, Leigh, “Food provides a way for me to communicate my feelings to those around me.” Coffee is one of them.

And yes, art most definitely has a place here.
