Stop the (French) presses!
This week, UNESCO announced that the cultural traditions of French baguettes, traditional Chinese tea preparation, and more are joining the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. Since 2003, UNESCO has maintained this list which now includes 678 elements reflecting 140 countries. Forty-four new elements were inscribed to the list this year; several elements reflect the artistry and cultural relevance of foods like la baguette; the social significance of tea preparation and drinking; or festival dishes with deep social and cultural significance.
